Effective April 1, 2013, acupuncturists and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practitioners became a regulated health profession in Ontario. This means that only practitioners who are registered by the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (the “College”), a self-regulatory body that will ensure these practitioners meet licensing and other professional requirements, shall use the title of Acupuncturist.
Dr. Daniel Perossa has been practicing acupuncture as part of the scope of chiropractic practice for over 15 years and will continue to do so. We have chosen not to pursue registration with the College for this designation of Traditional Chinese Acupuncturist. The regulation only affects those patients who wish to use their extended health insurance to claim the expense as "acupuncture". If you wish to receive acupuncture treatment with Dr. Daniel Perossa, the service will be billed as a chiropractic visit. For those patients that have coverage for both acupuncture and chiropractic treatment, you will need to check with your insurance company to verify what qualifications are needed to avoid unnecessary claim delays.
