Custom Made Orthotics
OH, My Aching Feet!
Did you know that the average person walks more 113,000 miles over the course of a lifetime? That’s the equivalent of walking around the world 4 times! That’s a lot of hard work for your feet. When our feet are healthy, we hardly notice them but when our feet are sore, they bring us to a grinding halt. Custom-made orthotics can help you take care of your feet BEFORE there is a problem.
Dr. Daniel R. Perossa is a Chiropractor and Certified Pedorthist, fully recognized by insurance companies as a foot care specialist and trained specifically to assess, design, manufacture and fit custom foot orthotics and orthopaedic shoes. Dr. Perossa uses a state-of-the-art computerized gait scan to aid in the making of the orthotics. It consists of a computerized force plate, with 6000 pressure sensors, that you walk across and a computer that scans your foot 60 times per second to show how your feet contact the ground and how you distribute your body weight over the soles of your feet. Dr. Perossa will then use a foam-casting technique of the feet to give a true 3-D impression of your foot. These methods have proven to be a highly effective means to produce the custom-made orthotics.
Wearing orthotics can help improve many problems associated with an incorrect gait. From foot & ankle pain, knee and leg pain, hip and pelvic pain to low back pain.
A very common condition seen in our clinic is plantar fasciitis. It is a condition wherein the muscle on the bottom of the foot is pulling on the base of the heel during each foot step causing inflammation and pain. Sometimes this condition will cause a bone spur in the heel if it becomes chronic. You may feel severe pain in the heel, particularly when you take your first steps of the day or after you have been off your feet for a long period of time. Wearing custom-made orthotics combined with ultrasound therapy, low level laser therapy, or acupuncture can help alleviate these symptoms.
Other conditions that would benefit from wearing custom-made orthotics include hammer toes, bunions, callouses, Morton’s neuroma, pain in the toes, and flat feet or high arches.
If you feel you could benefit from a pair of orthotics, a consultation with Dr. Perossa will determine the cause of your pain and whether a pair of orthotics are even necessary. That is your first step to better health.
