Will my extended health insurance cover my chiropractic, acupuncture* or massage treatments?
You will have to check your own policy as the Privacy Act prevents us from calling your insurance company for you. As each policy is different, there is no way to know unless you ask your insurance company directly. You will need to ask some or all of these questions about your policy to find out exactly what is covered.
1. Do I have coverage for chiropractic/acupuncture*/massage treatments with my plan?
2. How much coverage do I have per year?
3. What percentage of my cost for treatment is covered?
4. Is there a maximum dollar amount covered per treatment visit?
5. Will my assessment fee be covered? (Does not apply to massage treatments)
6. Do I need a doctor's prescription in order to be reimbursed by my insurance company?
*It is very important that you check with your insurance company regarding their policy on your acupuncture coverage. As acupuncture is now regulated in Ontario, a provider may need to be registered with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario in order for you to use your acupuncture benefits. Acupuncture services administered by Dr. Dan Perossa would be billed as a chiropractic service (not under acupuncture) because acupuncture falls within the scope of chiropractic treatment.

Can my treatments be direct billed to my insurance company?
That depends on your specific insurance policy and whether your plan allows assignment of benefits. The following insurance companies have allowed chiropractors and massage therapists to direct bill with some exceptions:
Canada Life
Chambers of Commerce Group Insurance
ClaimSecure
Cowan
Desjardins Insurance
Empire Life
Equitable Life
Green Shield
Industrial Alliance
Johnson Inc.
Manulife Financial
Maximum Benefit or Johnston Group
Medavie Blue Cross
Standard Life
Sun Life Financial
It is important to note that most policies require a medical doctor's prescription for massage therapy in order to be reimbursed through your extended health care plan. Please call your insurance company directly to find out before booking your appointment.
Not all policies with the insurance companies listed allow direct billing. In some cases, your policy requires you to pay up front for your treatment and submit receipts manually. As well, some policies require you to pay up front but we may be able to send the claim electronically on your behalf for you to receive the payment directly instead of us. The best thing to do is to call your insurance company directly to find out if your policy allows direct billing.
All other insurance companies not listed require you to pay upfront for your treatments and submit paid receipts manually via mail or online submission. Please call if you have any questions. We are more than willing to help you through this process!
